Throughout the years, Hughenden has been a prized home for many of our guests as they lovingly like to call it “their home away from home”. If you have not stayed with us before and are planning to come to visit us, then this post is for you.
This 1870 historic mansion has seen a lot of changes since its inception year, from a private residence, nursing home to a dance hall. Having been rediscovered in 1992 and through extensive restoration, it has now become an elegant and beloved hotel for so many of us, the locals, and visitors alike.
Currently, we have 31 boutique rooms all uniquely decorated that come with their character and charm. The rooms start with a budget cosy room for a single night solo traveller to grander rooms like our suites and deluxe for visitors who prefer to have more room to move around. The different rooms help our visitors to work within their budget and the purpose of their stay. Also, if you are unaware, we are the only hotel in Sydney that does not have a size or number restriction on pets, so you are a pet lover or own one you are in for a treat. Choose from 8 of our pet-friendly spacious rooms some with an outdoor area where your pooch can go and stretch its legs.

Budget Cosy Room
As the name suggests, this is our smallest room type however it packs a punch with an ensuite bathroom, modern amenities like a minibar, kettle, hairdryer, heater, iron, and ironing board. However, this room does not feature any air condition. We only have 2 of these rooms as this is meant for a solo traveller and staying for few nights.
Cosy Room
This double room is slightly more spacious occupying 15m2 space. This bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and comes with modern amenities like air-conditioning, mini-bar, hairdryer, iron & board. Cosy is one of the popular options for our visitors as it is within budget and quite comfortable for businessperson and traveller alike.
Standard Queen Room
This comfortable 20m2 fits perfectly for someone who is looking for an upgrade from double. These queen rooms are spacious and have a lot of room to move in, some even come with a desk if you need to get some work done. Spaciously built they all feature an ensuite bathroom and all modern amenities one might need.
Standard Pet-friendly Queen Room
This is a perfect room where you and your pets can live in harmony. Built-in 19 m2 area, these rooms feature a private courtyard or enclosed veranda. Our leafy backdrop of plants in the courtyard and seating feature is a bonus to get some fresh air, read a book and wind down with a glass of wine. This room will let your pooch stretch its leg.
Standard King Room
These 24 m2 King size rooms are a perfect fit for guests looking for a bigger bed and a spacious space. They can be configured with a king or twin bed. If you require a desk to work on, ask our friendly reception team and they will adjust it according to your requirement. Want a bathtub, you can make that request too. 2 of the King room have the option to be made pet friendly which is ideal for visitors who want a bigger room. Interstate travellers with pets are highly recommended to book this room.
Family Room
Also known as our gatekeeper house, this is a spacious room 41m2 that can easily fit a family or friends of 4. And if you have a pet, they are welcome too. This spacious room has 2 separate bedrooms, 1 king and 2 singles a match made in heaven. You will also have a small lounge to lie around and watch TV, a kitchenette to work some culinary magic too.
Queen Suite Room
The queen suite room features a small lounge area and a separate queen bed. If you like to have a balcony room that overlooks Queen Street this is room to go for. A comfortable seating area is provided in the balcony where you can overlook the locals and hustle of the street. Built with modern amenities and comforts it is sure to guarantee you a pleasant stay throughout.
Deluxe King Room
These 26 m2 King rooms have a high ceiling and small sitting areas all built within. This forms a part of the main old building. These rooms are guaranteed to take you back in time as they are filled with antiquity that goes back in time. If you like a Victorian bathtub, that can be arranged too. Filled with modern amenities and antiquities it is a perfect blend of old & new.
Manor Suite
Our most prized room the Manor suite was the original bedroom of Professor Quaife. This spacious room built-in 1870 takes you back in time with its high ceiling and balcony that overlooks the suburb of Woollahra. It is luxury at its best and a perfect blend of old and new working harmoniously to give you a perfect stay. Highly recommended for a honeymoon, romantic getaway, or photoshoot, it is sure to make your jaw drop. This room occupies 44m2.
